I have installed sp4 through the windows update button.
It has caused all kinds of problems with our software. I
need to uninstall this patch. How can I uninstall if I did
not archive my files?

Hi Doris

There is no need to reformat the drive and reinstall the OS, provided you
chose to archive (ie backup) the Files during the Setup of Service Pack 4.

To uninstall Service Pack 4, do this:

- Click on the Start Menu

- Choose SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL

- In the new Windows, open 'Add/Remove Programs'

- Scroll down till you find an entry called 'Windows 2000 Service Pack 4'
and click on the 'Remove/Change'

In case there is no such entry in 'Add/Remove Programs', try this:

First make sure you have Windows enabled to show Hidden Files and Folders:

- Open 'My Computer' on the Desktop

- Go to the 'Tools' Menu and open 'Folder Options...'

- In the 'Folder Options' Window, go to the 'View' tab.

- There look for an entry 'Hidden Files and Folders'

- Please ensure that 'Show hidden Files and Folders' is checked.

Once you have done this, begin looking for the Uninstallation Files of
Service Pack 4:

- Go to the following Directory: C:\WINNT\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst
(in the example, c:\ is the %systemdrive%, ie the Partition/Drive where you
have Windows 2000 installed)

- In the spuninst open the File called 'spuinst.exe' to start the Uninstall
of Service Pack 4.

If none of the above possibilities worked out, you have most probably not
chose to archive the Files of SP4. In this case you either can report your
problems here and see if we can solve them, or you can:

Do an Inplace Upgrade of Windows 2000.

If you consider this, please read the following two MS KB-Articles first:

- "How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292175

and

- "What an In-Place Windows 2000 Upgrade Changes and What It Does Not
Change":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;306952

or yo can, as Mercury suggested, start from scratch. However, don't forget
that when you choose to re-format, you will lose all of your data.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
