a few days ago i posted that my printer spool will no longer turn on and my wireless key board stopped working at the same time, i was infected with several trojans and hacktools i tried to repair using the xp install disc but there have been so many updates since i installed it i get the message you are running a newer version and that if i delete the current version all will be lost. i am not blameing xp2 because i have had it for some time, but my question is if i delete xp2 will i then be able to repair the spooler service with my old xp disc. if this is the case how do i delete it? gratefull for any help

How are you trying to repair spooler?

i have not tried repairing it i am just trying to turn it on and get a message "could not start the print service on local computer error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion" the feedback i got from the forum was that it would be difficult to do, and might be better to do a clean install. i read on google it is common on lexmark printers,if you know of a way i would be gratefull to hear from you

Go to start>run> type MSCONFIG in the box> ok > services> make sure the box for spooler is ticked > apply > restart the pc.

i have tried this allready and still get the message,as shown before. it is ticked and on auto start but will not go,i cant do a restrore because when they stopped working, i scanned with norton and there was some files that could not be deleted, quarentined or cleaned, and on their advice i turned off system restore and downloaded the latest virus definitions.when i turned restore back on all restore points are cancelled gratefull for any more tips.

Ok so you seem to possibly have a virus, now go to this site http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html and download all the removal tools, follow the instructions Turn of Restore then run them it will take time,

I would reinstall XP myself it would save a lot of time and trouble.

When I see the trade name Lexmark I cringe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their support is pathetic, their products are pathetic, now answer me this why are the prices dropping every day on Lexmark products? I have my opinion as to why?

Lexmark are absolutely RUBBISH and fail to sell hence, two Years ago all in one £149.99 the same model today £48.99 or less, go for Canon every time.

Good luck.

Howdy - Some more tips for you to try regarding possible infection - Download, install and update Ewido security suite Let it run a full system scan and delete anyting it finds, then run an online scan at Trend Micro This will take some time to run thorough. I myself would leave the system restore alone, A corrupt system restore is better than none at all, once you have got rid of your infection then you can re-set your resore points by disabling it, rebooting, then re-enabling it again.

i have tried all these things that are being suggested. i posted a few days ago now and members of this forum offered me the same advice.i used ewido and trend micro and many trojans and hack tools were found and deleted, and as i said i have now lost all restore points because i turned it off to get the latest updates from norton. what i am now trying to find out is.if i uninstal xp 2 would i then be able to use my xp install disc to repair.i cant do this now because i am running a newer version than that on the disc because of all the auto updates.thanks for your help so far and i would be gratefull for more advice

It appears that you have a problem with set-up due to deletion I would say a complete reinstall?

You will have to save all the important things i.e. photos etc: to disc, reboot > enter bios> hit F2 -F11 or whatever for your MOBO do this before it starts> when the bios appears enter Boot sequence> now first boot from DVD/CD rom > disable all the others> insert XP disc> hit F10 to save> now follow the instructions that appear on screen read the following.

Setting up your Operating System on a new and/or upgrade PC from the point of having fully installed the components and they are functioning correctly.

  • Start the computer and enter BIOS
  • Set date and time [this is important if you have upgraded your PC and also used the OS disk before].
  • Now set your boot formation as follows 1st boot CD ROM or DVD
  • Disable ALL the other boot devices.
  • Press F10 to save your settings in BIOS.
  • Insert your OS disk
  • Install and follow the instructions setting you desired preferences, authentic windows key/language/country Etc:
  • Upon completion of the set up restart the PC.
Now install the required drivers sound/LAN/Etc:

When it is set up re-enter bios and set HDD to 1st boot then the others CD/DVD etc:

thanks

Thanks for the reply, i think in all an uninstall is the best option. shame just for the sake of a printer. i will have to write down all of your instructions,i cant print them. i must say this is a good forum i have had so many replys to questions that i have asked. i joined geeks to go and never got one bit of help.
