I installed service pack 2, but my multiple monitor NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440
card is now showing the same 800x400 4 bit color video on both of my
monitors. When I boot up I get a window saying.

The ATI control Panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is
installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. The ATI control panel
will now exit.

So for the time being, my Windows machine is useless. How do I uninstall
Service Pack 2?

try safe mode and reinstall your ati drivers, or uninstall and reinstall or
whatever the heck ati wants their users to do these days.

You don't need to uninstall SP2 - You video drivers aren't correct.
If you're using an nVidia card, why would the ATI Control panel
be attempting to start ?
Go to Device Manager and expand the Display Adapters category.
Make sure there is only one card and that it is correctly identified.
Then go to Add/Remove programs and go through the list looking
for anything connected to ATI (Drivers, Apps...) Uninstall any you
find. Also uninstall any existing nVidia drivers.
Finally, go to nVidia's website and get the latest driver package
for XP and install.

duh. i didn't notice that he was using a nvidia card and having a problem
with ati drivers. this might have slipped my notice because i'm a matrox
user. lol

regardless, if he can't boot into the system normally he'll have to use safe
mode to make the simple repairs.

I succeeded in uninstalling service pack 2. While most applications
thought I had a different resolution, I was able to see well enough to get
to the uninstall menu and uninstall it. It had a few errors, and took a
while to locate and install my ATI drivers. For some reason my Sony
monitor #2 (which I use for another computer as well), has tremendously
distorted picture unless I pick 75 Hertz).

Adaptor type is C.P. Technologies RADEON 9200SE, according to the ATI
applciation.

So I am back, and I don't want to accidentally upgrade until I know my video
card will work.

I'm not sure what my card is. I just wrote down what Windows thought I was
running when it wasn't working correctly. Once I uninstalled service pack
2, the ATI drivers self-installed correctly.

Then it is strongly suggested that you find out why ATI has screwed up
drivers. It is not a SP2 fault.

Lets see! You have a Nivida Geforce video board but have ATI drivers
installed. Sounds like someone didn't clean up their system when they
changed video boards. Now you are stuck!

Try to remove the ATI drivers from Add/Remove Programs. If that doesn't
work - look around in the ATI web site.

You have video driver errors. These are user errors caused
by improper maintenance. You do not use ATI drivers when
you have a Nvidia card installed.
