I have an old PC with 2000 Pro on Partition C and XP on D. How do I
uninstall/remove Xp? Also will this affect the 2000 partition? Also how do I
deactivate XP with MS as I plan on giving the XP CD to a friend. I searched
MS knowledge base but came up with nothing on deactivating and they want to
charge me $59 for email support. I have the original CD, it is not OEM.

There's no deactivation process required for WinXP.

In your case, simply modify the boot.ini file to reflect only one operating
system. You can access the D drive from Win2K and extract any data needed then
format the drive using either Windows Explorer or the Disk Management tool
(diskmgmt.msc).

Here's some help with the boot.ini file:

Also, the startup files NTDETECT.COM and NTLDR located in the root of your C
drive are WinXP versions that were installed when you configured your dual boot.
You may or may not have to replace these with the Win2K versions. I don't think
they have to be replaced. Hopefully, someone else will jump in with advice on
this.Note that these are hidden system files so you'll need to configure your
Folder Options to view them.
