When I open the Windows folder with Windows Explorer, I find a long list
of files with names such as $ntuninstallxxx. What do I have here? And do
I need to keep them?

Also, when I open Windows Explorer, it opens to My Documents. I would
prefer it to open to Local Disk (C:). How, if at all, can I accomplish this?

The first question's been answered so ill try the second. To open explorer
showing your C: drive put /e after explorer in the shortcut you use to open
explorer. So the line would read "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e" no quotes,
this will open explorer at your c drive. There is a microsoft knoweledge
base article with other switches if you want it, I found this page but there
others.
