uninstall error

I am new to Windows XP. I am trying to uninstall a
software (Pagis 2.0). When doing this I get the following
hard error message.

..\Error decrementing\c:\windows\pixtran\ABATON.pxw

This is causing a problem because I can not install a
later version of this product.

Seeing this program came out in 1998, long before XP, do you run it in
compatibility mode for windows 98? [I don't know if that would make the loop
problem]
You might have to take out the Pagis entry's in the registry by hand, and
remove the files in safe mode. Do you use FAT32 or NTFS?
I get something to do with scanners for that .pxw file. Does some scanner
program start when windows does? If so shut it down before you try to remove
the program.
