When I try to uninstall an old version of Netscape 7.2, I get the following
error messsage.

ERROR:

0: Uninstall log folder not found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\{Product CurrentVersion}\Uninstall\Uninstall Log Folder

I am not sure what to do here. Why is this folder missing. I know how to
backup the entire registry before modifying anything. Please advise.

The easiest strategy is to reinstall Netscape. This will overwrite the current installation and recreate the uninstall information. You should then be able to uninstall the program properly.

But when I do that, the uninstall doesn't work.

The error says it's referring to a folder but it's referring to a registry
key. That particular registry key has several subkeys that list the
location of uninstall information. You should have a separate subkey for
old Netscape installation and that key's value should be the path to the
"missing" uninstall log.

So it would appear that the uninstaller is looking for the key and either
the path in the key is incorrect or it can't find the key at all. A common
explanation for this kind of situation is previous use of an
overly-ambitious cleanup program (a registry cleaner that got rid of the
uninstall key or a PC clean up/tune up program that deleted the uninstall
log).

If possible, I would still go with Ronnie's suggestion. Find an install
file for the older version of Netscape. Run it so that it can rebuild the
necessary registry keys and uninstall log. You may need to restart the
computer. Then try uninstalling the old version.

Before installing the new version, look for any leftover folders from the
old Netscape installation. Look inside of them to be sure there isn't
anything inside that you want (bookmarks or whatever) and then delete them.

Once the old version is gone, then work on installing the new version.
