I am not a developer, but I mistakenly installed vers 1 and 2 of ASP.NET on
my home desktop (XP Home SP2). Months later I started to uninstall it and
found a warning that doing so might affect other programs. I have never use
ASP.NET and suspect that it would be OK to remove it, but would like some
reassurance that doing so would not affect any installed programs? Are there
any precautions I should take in uninstalling the two version and their
updates?

Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Hello geekseeker,

There is no way to uninstall only ASP.net, because it's a part of .NET framework,
and you can remove whole FW
But this removement definitly affects to your apps, not all but that part
which uses .NET

what's the reason to remove .NET? In nowadays it becames the integral part
of the windows

Thanks for your response Michael....guess I didn't appreciate the role of FW
....I thought it was just a development tool .... do I want versions prior to
ver 2?

Hello geekseeker,

..NET framework is not the development tool - it's the framework (or system)
that required for the managed application (that .NET is) to run

Number of these apps increased everyday, because MS going to make .NET the
main platform.
They even have plans to build .NET windows system.

There is no reason to remove .net fw at all (exept you are java or mac guy
and hates MS, thus what are u doing on windows ;)

for developer guys need .NET SDK to develop apps - that the number of additional
apps and libs.

You needn't remove previous to 2.0 version (except betas) FW because some
apps can be harnessed into specific version and if u remove 1.1 framework
you can end up that some of your apps don't work

Hello geekseeker,

I mean that u need it if you app requests it, but there is no reason to add
manually all previous versions

Nice to get info ... ....I have Ver 1.1 SP1 and Vers 2 with security updates
.....think that's all I need until version 3 comes. Many thanks Michael

Hello geekseeker,

Yep, in general it's most common set of .NETs just right now.
And all necessary SPs will be delivered via Windows Update (.NET FW too)
