uninstall and reinstall xp

I have Windows XP Home edition on my PC. I have to uninstall and reinstall
XP on my PC as I want to upgrade my PC. Do I have to d anything to
deactivate my windows XP copy before I uninstall so that I can install it
again after I upgrade my PC.

Although you can do that, it's not necessarily true that you have
to.

No. Not only do you not have to, but you can not. There is no
such thing as deactivation. Just reactivate it when you're done.
