i am running xp pro fully updated. i have purchased a samsung dvd / vcr
recorder. in the manual it says the first time i use a dvd-rw disc i have to
choose to initialise the disc.if i select 'yes' i am given the choice to
choose the recording format for the dvd-rw disc.the choices are dvd-vr and
dvd-v. i know i may sound stupid, but the manual does not give (or i cannot
find) the pro's and cons of dvd-v and dvd-vr.could someone please explain to
this newbie at dvd writng, the difference and the pro's and cons
thank you in advance
p.s the dvd writer only writes to dvd minus disc but playback supports most
formats

It's a very long convoluted process to explain, but it's about
compatiabilty.
But credit to Samsung, *they* do explain it in the user manual:
http://product.samsung.com/micro_manuals/dvdvr320/um_DVD-VR320_manual_eng_050511.pdf

For more, start here:

But, this is basically an issue of trial and error to determine which option
is less problematic with compatibility issues.
You are using a RW, so first time opt for DVD-V
You can always erase and try DVD-VR.

thanks for that info.you have been very helpful with the links.I am sure i
will fathom it out,given time
