Unimportant question about Updates

Running XP SP2.

In earlier days, when running under Windows 9X, after applying a cumulative
security update for Internet Explorer, you could see it listed when you
checked out the "about" information box.

After applying a patch under XP, it shows up under "Add-Remove Programs" but
not in the "about" information box of Internet Explorer.

My question is:

Is there any way (maybe a Registry setting) that will allow the name of the
patch to show up in the "about" box?

This seems to be a "feature" of SP2.
I don't know of a fix.
Irritating, isn't it.
