Unidentified Start-up list items

I find items whose identity is not clear.
Such as:

ALCMTR
RTHDCPL
RECGUARD
dumprep 0-k

How can I identify these, to see whether I want them
active or not?

And how can I permanently remove items I don't
need or want?
