I have an icon that appears on my desktop occasionally without prompting on my
part. I have no idea as to what program it represents, and looking at its
properties fails to enlighten me. I usually right click it and delete it but,
like the itch, it keeps coming back every so often.

Anybody ever encounter something like that?

What does it look like? If it looks like ~, then this is a bug with the
address book. I think a recent update caused it. No fix yet as far as I
know.

Unfortunately while an anti-virus program is a must so is
a spyware\adware remover. It has become one of the "Must"
have programs of the time. The best free one out there is
SpyBot Search and Destroy. I am guessing that you have
spyware on your system and even though you have deleted
the shortcut you have not deleted the program. It is easy
to trace an icons program location. Right click on the
icon then click properties then the icon tab and then the
find target button and all the program files will be
displayed including dll's. Good luck.

Sounds like a plan. I'll let you know what happens the next time it rears its
ugly head. (^-^)

Thanks for the input.
