i have a couple of problems on my computer. it does not
shutdown but rather restarts spontaneously. it seems to
do this on cue when i try to start my aol program. it
also has given me several errors

stop: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0xEECD50D3, 0xED6CD970,
0x00000000)

PCC_PFW.sys - Address EED50D3 base at EECD2000, Date
Stamp 3cf715d3

among others. i know that this is very technical, but i
don't know how to resolve these issues.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ian,

You may have multiple problems. The 0x8E error could be caused by faulty
ram, but there are some other possibilities. I haven't seen it in relation
to AOL software, but with them it's nearly impossible to know what's going
on. I would suggest, if you insist on using it, that you try reinstalling
it.

The other problem with PCC_PFW.sys is related to PC-Cillan's antivirus
software. Are you using it? Is it up to date? Are you using another product
as well (using two actvie av programs often brings conflicts)?

If you want to check the memory, there are free programs here:

http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/download.asp
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

But keep in kind that a thorough test can only be done with test equipment
at a computer shop. Software tests are not perfect in diagnosing these
issues. At the price of memory today, you may find that the test costs more
than a replacement stick.
