Hello and thanks for reading. My pc just crashed again, basically my pc keeps on freezing after 30 mins or so and i mean a complete freeze where i have to restart. A few people say its the powersupply. It crashed when i reinstalled windows but its somehow installed this time.

this is a brandnew motherboard and a new pc since i got it in december. my previous motherboard that i was using before i put this one in yesterday worked fine with NO problems what so ever but then i use this one and i have problems. The power supply is 450w and its supplying the full ATX including the part that u can take off but the part that im concerned about is that there is a 12v power with two 4 atx power which im only using half off.

simply, its either not enought power is being supplied or there is a serious fault with hardware.

if anyone can help me then thanks and much appreciated

If Control-alt-delete does not work, nor Alt Tab, no error messages, then I would be looking at a hardware problem.

Checked the System log in Event Viewer just to see if there were any events captured there that might shed some light. From Control Panel’s Classic view, double-click Administrative Tools, then double-click Event Viewer. :thumb:

Bad RAM, overheating, and defective hard disks, in that order, are the most common hardware failures in my experience. Not to mention, a bad PSU, dodgy cabling and loose expansion cards can all cause random crashes and lockups.

A 450 PSU does seem a little tight, though, I would expect the PC to reboot randomly if there are some power fluctuations, but I won't rule it out ...

... your comment, "12v power with two 4 atx power which I'm only using half off", is a little confusing to me?

Without more info on what your system actually consists of, motherboard, CPU, ram, make model etc etc ... I can't help much further.

Welcome to the forums. :D

well appreciate the replies, my spec is

abit an52 mobo
2 gig ddr 2 ram
160 sata
psu 450w
coolermaster black case
amd 2.1 dual core

what i mean by that is i have the FULL ATX power slot used up but i also have the additional 12v power connecter which im only using half of as my power supply doesnt that the full connector for that, only half

its just crashed again and ive just reconnected the power slots to see if that will do any thing to help it and also unplugged one of my fans

the computer crashses way before reaching any heat limit. it stays at a constant 40 and the system staying at a 20, gosh, my last board was alot cooler, why on earth did i switch..

cheers guys, much appreciated for your support

ah, an Abit MB ... I had one, once. I lost all my hair. ;)

OK, you still have me a little confused in your terminology of this 12v power cable ... you are only using half of it.

Show me ... here is a selection;

What make model PSU are you using? I think you may have an ineffective PSU. We need to rule that out.

When ATX was originally introduced there was just one kind of ATX power supply. If you had an ATX power supply and an ATX motherboard then you plugged them together and they worked. At least they did if the power supply delivered enough wattage. Back then ATX life was simple. Nowadays things are a bit more complicated. Now you can get an ATX power supply and ATX motherboard and end up with connectors which don't match. Even if the connectors do match you can still run into trouble even though the power supply appears to have sufficient wattage.

Today's MBs use 24pin connectors and sometimes need an additional 4pin connector, for CPU and or Graphics card ... a lot of newer graphics cards also require their own power.

ah, I just found your MB ... it does use the newer 24in main power connector, plus an 8pin power connector. I take it then your PSU don't have the correct ones ... if that is so, then you really do need a new PSU before we can go much further with this. :thumb:

Ah, Mucks found it, lol ;)

Yes, some newer motherboards require 2 x 12V 4-pin connectors and your PSU only has one.

That is almost certainly what is causing your crashes, I'm surprised it even starts.

Buy yourself a nice 600W Corsair; Enermax; Tagan; OCZ or Seasonic Power Supply :thumb:

yea, thats it, thats my mobo and ill take your advice and by a new psu when i get paid.

thanks ever so much for your support and it is very much appreciated

thanks
