Does anyone know of a freeware or fully functional shareware programme that
will allow me to recover files on a floppy disk? This is quite urgent. Any
help will be much appreciated. Thanks :-)

A side-effect of this utility is that it removes the copy lock from
old floppies allowing you to copy those ancient disks before they
decay.
