John

I'm running XP Home SP3. In MyComputer, when I search of items on my hard
drives, they are never found. The progress indicator (the percentage of
completion) never changes from 0%, and then it ends with a message that
"There are no results to display". I have searched for files that I KNOW are
there, without success. I've updated and run Antivirus, Antispyware,
Antiadware. I don't know what could be wrong with the search function. Any
ideas?

Hi John,

It's maybe a problem of service registration.

Try this

Open the command prompt (start -> run -> cmd -> OK )

Type or copy and paste the following commands below into the command prompt
window

press enter after each line and you should get a confirmation that the file
was registered successfully

regsvr32 /i C:\Windows\Srchasst\srchui.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon
regsvr32 jscript

Click on Start\Run then type or copy and paste from here c:windows/inf
click OK
locate the srchasst.inf file which will be next to the srchasst.PNF file

- usually when the folder opens start typing the letters of the file name
and it should find it for you quickly instead
of having to scroll through or you can set the folder to be viewed as a list
and look for it alphabetically.

Once you have located the file

right click on srchasst.inf select install

Test and see if search is now working for you
