Undoing sound event association

Sometime when I was surfing, a popup advertiser managed make a software
change to link the event of the opening of a new window with causing
the sound events Default sound to sound three times in succession, as a
way of getting me to pay attention to the a window that opened up.
This was done so that I would notice a popup, but now also occurs
whenever I open a new window manually, or through a voluntary click of
my own from a link.

I cannot find any specific, additional entry in Sounds (from Control
Panel) that uses the Default sound, so my only remedy is to deactivate
the Default sound completely.

Does anybody know how I can get rid of this three-times sounding of the
Default sound every time a new window opens? A Registry edit, maybe?

Thanks. But I have associated different, unique sounds to most of the
sound events, using sounds from sound effects CDs. Only the Default
Beep sound occurs 3x whenever a new window pops up, which it never did
before, not even 1x. Only when I changed the Default Beep sound to
None did the 3x-sound stop.

I guess I could do a Registry search for Default Beep, or just get by
without the Default Beep. I have enough sounds for most of the other
events anyway. I was just wondering if there was a fix for this that
other knew about, or if anyone else had this popup BS sound crap dumped
on them.
