I mistakenly chose to download pictures and selected "set
as desktop" I would like to remove these images that now
appear as a wall papered section of my background.

I've tried: run gpedit and can't get anywhere there.

Ideas, or better yet, solution anyone?

Have you tried going to Display Properties?

Right click your desktop and from the menu...choose...
Properties / Desktop tab...in the Background list...
choose...None / Apply / OK...

Thanks John,
I tried that but the images appear over the background and
under icons--as if they're on another layer. I cahnged
background to a full iamge and then reverted to "none" no
change. Any more ideas?

These files are in your Desktop folder. To find it, click on Start, click on
Search and click on the box files and folders.
In the box All or part, type:
desktop
and click on search.
This will return many "desktop" items but you should see a yellow icon
indicating a folder with the word desktop next to it (there may be more than
one desktop folders). Click on it to open it and see what is in it. Your
files should be there. Just select them and then look at the menu on the
left and click on Move these items. A window will open for you to select a
folder you want (or you can also make a new folder if you want) and the
files will be moved to this folder and removed from the desktop folder.

Sorry, but I have no specific solution for you...

Maybe running the following command will help:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"
