undesired redirect when URL is unknown

when I type in the wrong URL, or a URL is not found, I get redirected
to some unwanted page. How do I decide where I should go when a URL
is not found?

don't bother e-mailing me, my address is so overspamed I don't use

Get and run these programs (if you test after each one you can stop when the
problem is gone):
Ad-Aware:

Once installed make sure to update via online before scanning!

To WHERE do you get redirected? WHAT is the unwanted page? Is it the same
every time? Have you run any of the regularly-recommended checks for
hijacking or parasites? These are recommended at least a few times every day
and surely you read the appropriate posts before posting yourself.

I did a search for similar pages, but couldn't find any. I knew they
exist, but just couldn't find them. I am going to go to the pages
suggested by the other two posters. Do you have any other suggestions
of things I should do? What about when I run netscape?
