hi,

I would like to buy a VIA EPIA V-series Board with 1GHz CPU. Is it
possible to underclock the CPU so that the fan could be switched of?
(1GHz because I want to use it for DVD-playback later on.)

Are there any experiences?

Thanks

Maybe use a quiet fan on a larger heatsink. They do exist. I use a Tt
Volcano 9 with adjustable fan, on a AMD 2100XP, very quiet when turned all
the way down, for web surfing, etc. There are better, but that works for me.
I don't mind it running a little hot, (50-55 C) but quiet is very nice.
Unless you get a quiet PSU, the CPU fan won't be the loudest.

Good Luck!

I have the original EPIA800 as well as M10000. The problem with the original
and the EPIA V is that they use SDRAM and thus the graphics subsystem is
rather slow. The 800 has problems playing mpeg2 files recorded from DTT
(digital terrestrial TV). M series use DDR memory and are much faster,
especially the Nehemiah versions.
The M version does have a BIOS setting for CPU speed but its greyed out.
Perhaps future BIOS versions will enable it. The CPU cooling fan is
practically inaudible.
I'm currently waiting for the TC version because its powered from a single
12V supply and thus the PSU can be external and silent.
