UNDERclock a Radeon 7500?

I've, as I mentioned, an ATI "Powered" Radeon 7500 video card.
Sometime last month the fan on it stopped moving, and it started
locking up more and more before I finally caught that it was over
heating.

Since then I've replaced the fan, and 2 new case fans (one in one out)
AND a PCI slot turbine outgoing fan placed right under the card. The
ambient temp never gets higher than 28c.

However, while it's not locking up AS often and as quickly as before,
it's still locking up, especially during video intense apps, like
games.
The ATI Control Panel doesn't seem to have any clock settings that
would allow me to underclock the card. Is there some way to do it?

Especially maybe at the BIOS? Because it's even locking up in Linux in
XWindows. So if there's something I can do to help the card
UNDERperform before it loads the OS, that'd be best.

Would it be Apeture settings? Maybe setting it to a lower than 4x AGP?

Thanks for any advice!!

Go to www.rage3d.com and download Radeonator Lite, a simple overclocking
utility that will let you experiment with any setting you choose. That way
you can eliminate the card as the cause of your lockups and you can start
playing with driver and bios settings to find a stable combo.

weird my radeon AIW 7500 came without a fan, never overheats...i dont OC it at all.
I have had some earlier productions that had fans and later ones did not, been wondering what they changed,, the HS?

Well, differet manufacturers I'm sure do different things with their version
of the 7500. OEM vs. retail, one company vs. another company.

All I know is evidently mine is prone enough to overheating that it needs a
fan.

both were BUILT BY Ati

configurations with and without fans and carrying a variety of ram types and
specs.

Some had a lot of overclocking overhead, and some struggled to run at stock
speeds. Some were locked in the bios to prevent changing the clock speed,
and some were wide open.

If I recall correctly, my fanless 32-meg Sapphire Radeon DDR was locked at
144/144, but a bios flash allowed me to take it to 166/166 and enable some
performance-enhancing registry settings that were unavilable in the OEM
version. Made a big difference.

Nice site, have it bookmarked now. Some good info.
Well, I set the clocks to as low as they'd go, still locks up.
Backed up to the last Windows based display drivers, still locks up.
Turned off fast write, lowered apeture to 32MB, still locks up. Lowered to
2x AGP...still locks up.
Looks like the previous period of overheating may have dome some real damage
that just can't be work around.

Thanks for the replies!
