I have an old Slot-1 PIII processor that I'm trying to remove from its
heatsink. Can someone advise me on how to do this? They're attached
by two plastic clips that anchor in the plastic of the processor. In
the image below, you can see these four anchor points.

Ken,

I've had to deal with in the past. It's actually fairly simple to remove
the retaining clips from the PIII processor. You will need PC case screw.
Make sure that the screw is able to fit in the holes that the retaining
clips are inserted through.

1. Go ahead and lay the screw with the "head" side down on the surface.

2. Take your PIII processor with cover(where it indicates "Pentium III")
side down and place one of the retaining clip holes onto the screw.

3. Push down hard enough until the retaining clip is disengaged.

4. Do this for the other three holes.

5. Now you have the clips free without being broken.

Hope that helps.

Edward,

Great techinque, worked like a charm! Incredible how expensive clips
and heatsinks are for old Dells... glad I was able to salvage mine.

Great to hear that ken, I actually found the technique awhile back on a
site. Its not the first time it's been used.

Take Care,
