Dear Community

I have all XP embedded host tools installed on one computer running XP Pro
SP1. Running all tools like TD, Component Database and so on, on one single
Computer was not possible with SP2 installed on the host system.

This is a problem because support for XP with SP1 has stopped.

How can I install & configure SP2 on my computer running all design tools?

Thank you for your responses

Sandor,

Perhaps it would help if you mentioned how exactly it failed and what errors you saw during the install. Check out the product
install troubleshooting section to see if any suggestion would help you out there.

Not sure what you meant here. XP SP1 is still supported by Microsoft [talking about OS here].

Hi

The installation process worked fine. When running TD or Component Database
Manager the Component database could not be found.
We found that SP2 or its firewall was the issue even when the firewall was
disabled.

So we did not install SP2 on the host.

In contrary the system requirements in technical specification for the
embedded tools need as operating system for tools and database "Windows 2000
with Service Pack 2 or Windows XP operating system".

What Servicepack level of XP does this imply or exclude?

Kind regards
Sandor

Sandor,

Quite frankly I don't know why SP2 prevent you from installing XPe tools properly.
I've been running XPe Tools on SP2 forever and no problems found there.

If TD or CDM couldn't connect to database, I'd rather check what's going on with the SQL server and Mantis db instance in
particular.
Also, sometimes 3rd party products can influence the connection or the tools.

Hi KM

Thank you for the tip. I will try to test that in the next few days.

Kind regards

The XPe setup does not enforce any particular service pack level for XP
as your development machine's OS. KM is on the right track here, it's
most likely something to do with the SQL side. You could help narrow it
down by looking in the sql machine's security event logs to see if the
user connecting is authenticate or not. If it is authenticated then it's
definitely at SQL, if not authenticated then it's with the machine's
installation of windows (assuming the SQL DB was on a remote machine).
