Hi Everyone

Being a complete novice I have the following problem, windows xp will not boot up and the following error message occurs. Unauthorized product code ?

What i want to know is can i buy pass this and access windows anyway ?

Also can i take xp off the computer all together and load up windows 2000 and if so how can i do this im really stuck as to what to do

well im not gona cooment on your error message

but if u want to remove xp and install windows 2000
thats definetly going backwards
u will need to format the harrdrive, i would do this using the windows 2000 setup cd from bios

set your bios options to 'load from ATAPI CD ROM' this is the first boot device
stick in your windows 2000 cd and boot it up from bios
and run a clean installtion of windows 2000, obviously it will ask u to format the drive be4 hand

Your error message suggests either you have an illegal copy of XP or you've entered the official code wrong.

You won't find help here if it is an illegal copy.

If you have a legal copy of XP, phone Microsoft.

If you have a legal copy of Win 2K, yes, you can install it, do as psd99 suggests.
 
Hi

Can anyone be kind enough to talk me through taking XP off my system as its driving me crazy !

I just want to reinstall windows 2000 and cant seem to work out how to do it !

I have gone into the bios but it all looks a bit confusing for me

Set the first boot device to CD within Bios.

Boot with the win 2K CD in the drive.

Follow instructions during installation, you'll be presented with an option to format your disk.

This will erase XP.
