Unattended automatic SP4 installation?

Yesterday my home computer had SP4 automatically
installed, apparently without any user prompting. I
returned home to find a dialog box indicating it was now
time to reboot my system. I have no idea how this could
have occurred, but the result is no backup files and no
way to uninstall SP4, which wreaks havok on my system
(another problem for another time).

Is this possible? The computer was just sitting there all
day, running its virus scans and sleeping. Can SP4 be
installed without a user's mouse clicks? Anyone else
experienced anything like this?

Windows Automatic Update can do this.

You can set it to do nothing, or notify you of updates and
give you the option to install them, and one of the
options is automatically check for updates and install
them with no user intervention - you can also specify
specific times to do this.

If your on broadband then its probably why, if you are on
a dial up connection and you have set 'automatically dial
my isp' then the same thing could have happened.

Go into CONTROL PANEL and AUTOMATIC UPDATES and check the
settings.
