Unassociating file with Word

Hi,

I associated a Log file with Word.

I would now like to unassociate this file. That is, I do not need the
Log file to be associated with any programme.

Can anyone tell me how to unassociate this file?

It would take a registry edit.

But association is just telling the OS what to do when you
double-click a file, or just tell the OS to "open" it. The OS looks up
the association to decide which program to feed the file to. having
the association there won't harm anything and removing it won't
accomplish anything.

As a matter of interest how would the edit be accomplished?

I'm afraid I don't remember exactly, and my employer doesn't let us
run regedit, so I can't dig it up. IIRC, there's a (large) section
where file extensions are listed, each one related to a file type. The
types are listed nearby, with each type is the file and command used
to view, edit, print, whatever. Also the icon to show for it and which
command to execute when you double-click or choose "Open". If you
delete the file extension entry for the offending files, any
association should be destroyed. Remember to backup the registry
before messing with it.
