unable to view pictures in "my pictures"

hi...windows xp "picture and fax finder" screen opens up
and displays "no preview available". contacted dell who
advised:
Internet Explorer is unable to view pictures or graphic -
Internet Explorer's Multimedia settings have been
modified to not display pictures.
- Right click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop
- Click Properties
- Click the Advanced tab
- Put Check mark on "Show Pictures" under
the "Multimedia" heading
- Click Apply and OK
- Click the Refresh button to reload the Web page images
***tried this and it still didn't work. pls help! thanks
