It doesn't matter What type of attachment i have, Win Mail will not allow me
to view/open/save attachments. I have installed Office Pro 2007 to no effect.
I have tried all work arounds in this forum but still no joy. Obvious;y
Microsoft don't give a #$%& ..they got our money..thats all they worry about.

I even rang MS tech support only to be told they couldn't help..they hadn't
been trained yet...

I tested saving a JPG attachment in Windows Mail, which succeeded simply
by clicking its name in the header area.

You may have a configuration problem, or another app may be blocking the
save. Also check TOOLS|OPTIONS|SECURITY SETTINGS, if you have not done
so already.

Do you have found a solution yet, because I'm having the same problem?

Greetings

Pieter

Some have reported that Norton Internet Security will cause this problem.
The fix would be to uninstall NIS.

I had this problem with the retail version when I installed AVG, it went
away when I uninstalled AVG. (But I couldn't fix it when it occurred when
using RC1.)

Sorry to hear that AVG can cause this problem. Before this, only
Symantec/Norton and McAfee products were on my bad actor list.

I haven't had a problem using AVG 7.5

Hi, I am running Vista with AVG 7.5 free edition and all WAS fine, all of a
sudden I can now not open any attachments either, HELP I have also lost the
top bar with the windows close option on it.

Been looking everywhere for help but nothing yet.

Thanks

Make sure that email scanning in AVG is turned off and that the email plugin
is disabled. This will not decrease your protection at all.

I am using Avast! and am having the same problem. I've reviewed every link
available to me, and googled the inability to save or view attachments to no
avail. I've uninstalled my antivirus temporarily to try and open an
attachment, and that did not even work... so to clarify, my Windows mail will
not allow me to open attachments even when no anti-virus is present. "Do not
allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
has been unchecked the entir time. I even tried checking it, applying, then
unchecking it and applying again.

I am working on a bachelor's degree online, and we use newsgroups as our
class rooms, and this is also where we make our postings. This has been
frustrating for me, because I am unable to open any attachments. I've had to
install Mozilla's Thunderbird in order to be able to continue my education.
I do prefer Windows Mail because it is much easier to create news rules,
which are important to me. I spend $1500 every 5 weeks for continuing
education, and it is disturbing to me that a glich like this nearly
jepordized that! I'm sure that I am not the only one who values the ability
to open attachments.

I've been trying to fix this problem for a couple weeks now, so any help
would be greatly appreciated!!! I am using Windows Vista Home Premium,
Avast! antivirus, Windows defender is running. I tried finding a way to shut
down defender, to see if that might resolve the problem, but the only place I
could find it running was under services, and when I tried to stop the
service, it gave me an access denied. I am an administrator on my computer.
I did review the link I've seen posted here several times (reviewing #1 and
#3) but they were not helpful to me.

Again, thanks for any help that anybody can provide.

Sounds like you've tried all the suggested fixes for this problem.
Sorry it didn't work out.
Just continue using Thunderbird until Microsoft comes out with a fix.

I would also suggest giving Thunderbird a try.
