I have an Access database which is no longer showing the
tables, queries, forms, etc. When I open the database I
have a blank Access screen. The database still shows a
size of 120MB, so I assume the data is thier. However I am
unable to view anything in the database. I was using the
the database one day and the next day I am experiancing
the above problem. The Access screen is at full view. I
have done nothing new in working with the database. Just
daily updates. I have been using this database for many
months.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try keeping your finger on shift while opening the database, the
database window might be hidden

Thanks for the Shift Key suggestion. However this does not
help. I use the Shift Key to access the data on a regular
basis for my updating. I keep the tables, guerries, and
forms, hidden from the general user with only a select
group of forms being displayed.

Try holding down the Shift key as you open it - someone may have
(intentionally or otherwise) selected the Startup option to conceal
the database screen. You should also be able to bring it back by
pressing F11 after opening.

It's also possible that the database window has just been moved
offscreen. Select Window... Cascade to bring it back onscreen.

Did you get any error message?

If you didn't, try opening the database with the Shift Key depressed the use
the command Windows / Cascade ... and / or Windows / Arrange Icons ... to
see if the Database Containers window re-appear.

If you got an error message or the above didn't work, your database is
probably corrupted. See Tony Toews' article:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

I do not get an error message. It is as though I am
creating a new database. The menu options in the pulldowns
are unavailable. The cascade option and others are not
highlighted. Yet it shows a database size of 120MB.

Hold the Shift Key down while you open the database. This should show the
Database Containers window AND the Standard MenuBar. Use the Menu Command
/Tools / Startup ... and select "show the Database Window". Also check
setting for Startup Form.

Then Use Windows / Cascade and / or Windows / Arrange Icons ...

Also try a new database and use Get External Data ... / Link ... and see if
you can read the Tables from your original database.

BTW, have you been Repairing and Compacting as well as backing-up the
database regularly?

I have not been Repairing and Compressing. However I did
have a backup which was about a month old. I was able to
restore the database from the backup. This created no
problem. I have four databases constructed exactly the
same. The one which I am having the problem with is the
largest of the four. The problem occured again yesterday.
Again it appeared as all the tables, queries and forms had
vanished. However the database still shows that it is
120MB. I have tried creating a new database and importing
the data from the old database. However it does not
recognize anything from the old database. Luckily I have
started creating daily backups. The database is on a Novel
network server.

Certainly daily back-ups or even twice daily is the way to go until you can
resolve the problem.

I am sure Tony Toews (whose Web site I posted the link to in one othe
earlier post) has some important info on using Access on a Novell network.
See if it helps to reduce the number of corruption incidences.

Corrupt databases will normally show the original size since things (Tables,
Queries, etc ...) don't disappear. They are still there but corrupted and
therefore not useable and occasionally not visible.
