I am trying to use a Kingston Data Transfer 2.0 Flash Driver on a Dell
Machine with Microsoft Windows XP service Pack 2.0 loaded.

The computer does not recognize the Driver, although it is supposed to have
been loaded. I get an error message "the driver for this device has not
been installed (Code 28)".

I called Kingston (the manufacturer) and they do not have a driver to
download and tell me to look at the Microsoft site to see if I can locate an
appropriate driver, since it is supposed to have been installed.

I have tried, but do not see any appropriate driver or message. Can someone
point me to the proper area?

thank you.

I would at first remove all unused USB devices from the Device
Manager. Also check the hidden ones: "Device Manager Does Not Display
Devices That Are Not Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer"

Jules, I have the same problem but found that rather than finding the drive
in windows explorer, it was under control panel \portable media devices.

Although the driver is supposadly not installed i was still able to move
files around.

can you also see your flash drive under portable media devices?

If you can see the device in manage disk just assign it another drive
letter. I have had these devices try to use a set drive letter that is
already in use and it just doesn't show up.

It would appear that, when new hardware is identified, Windows XP Home does
not automatically look in the c:\windows\inf folder for the driver. When I
told the wizard to look in that folder, the drivers were loaded with no
problems and everything is fine again.

What has caused this, I do not know...but all seems ok now.
