My Grandma has a Gateway laptop, P IV probably about 1.5
gtz. Uses AOL on a dialup connection
with XP. I recently discovered that there have been no
Windows updates ever installed. We had the computer
download 52 meg of updates overnight. They downloaded
OK, but they didn't automatically install. They just sat
there. I tried to download the 1.9 meg patch that you
have to install separatly from the rest of the updates
and the same thing happened. It downloaded OK, but would
never automatically install. I didn't see any option to
make it install after that. Does anyone know why this
would be the case? Thanks for your help.

Only use Internet Explorer when visiting the Windows Update
website. Do not use a third-party browser such as AOL.

No, IE doesn't open automatically. You can visit Windows Update with any
browser under the sun, but it only works with Internet Explorer.
