I have recently tried to upgrade IE5 to IE6 by downloading
and running the IE6 setup program from the Microsoft
support website. However this failed and whenever I try to
reinstall it I get the the following message:
"A previous installation has pending work requiring a
reboot. You will have to complete this installation before
continuing. Setup will now close"
Rerunning the program, shutting down and restarting does
not work. If I try to reinstall an earlier version of IE
I get this message:
"Setup has detected an earlier version of Internet
Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot
continue."
However IE6 is NOT present and there is nothing in
the "add/Remove programs" option in Control Panel to
uninstall.
In other words I am effectively stuck in an infinite loop,
unable to install or uninstall IE6 or any other version of
IE. Is there an answer to this problem?
