Unable to type in text fields (such as this subject box) in IE 6

I have recently been unable to type anything into text
boxes (for example, the search box on Google or any other
site). I am also unable to highlight text in Internet
Explorer. Other problems I am having are with the
add/remove programs dialog box-- it doesn't display names
of programs, only small icons and frequency of use. I
have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE (was able to
figure out which one it was because I recognized the icon
of the program that came after it alphabetically) and it
didn't seem to help. Also when I try to go to the
Help::About, it pops up an error message: Error 84
Unspecified Error.
I am running Windows 2000 on a Dell Laptop.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!

I have the same problem.. In addition, there is no
information re: IE in the 'About' page..
