Unable to turn off XP Internet Firewall

Bob

I need to turn off the XP firewall to install a different
firewall. I go to Control Panel/Internet Connections,
right click on AOL, select properties, and no menu comes
up to enable me to turn off the firewall.

This is normal. AOL has made the properties of that connection
inaccessible. The only way that I know of to apply the XP firewall to this
connection is using the Network wizard. Unfortunately, the Network wizard
can't reverse that.

You can use the AOL software tools to remove the existing AOL adapter and
rebuild it. The new AOL adapter will not have the XP firewall attached to
it.

Greetings --

WinXP's built-in firewall is disabled by default. Further, the
firewall cannot be enabled on an AOL connection because AOL
deliberately makes their connection application incompatible with both
WinXP's firewall and it's Internet Connection Sharing capabilities.
