When I start my PC I get a pop up:-
"This application has failed to start because PLATCTRL.BPL was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
This happens everytime I start and I wonder if has anything to do with recently doing a system restore to cure Outlook Express problems or recent renewal of Panda software.
I searched on Internet Explorer against PLAT..... but can't see any explanation.
Any suggestions? Thanks

There is a "pointer" left hanging around in the start-up of your system, but the program is no longer there. Quite a few programs use the .BPL file extentions, so I have no idea what was uninstalled or what needs reinstalling.

Download CCleaner, wish I had a penny eveytime I point people to this excelent program, install and run it.

It will get rid of a few "loose" ends and help clean out other rubbish ... run a Defrag after its use. ;)

oh, and welcome to the forum. :thumb:

Thanks for the advice - will try it. I just renewed Panda anti virus which meant uninstalling the 2005 version. Maybe this caused it ?

Installed Ccleaner and did a defrag but the warning still persists.Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks

It could well be the cause ... usual 'trick' is to re-install then uninstall and try again.

Best I can suggest. :)

Muckshifter - you were right. I got onto Panda and they said last year's anti virus was still hanging around and preventing renewal from installing. They gave me an uninstall web site to click on and that did the trick. I have to say that Panda's response was excellent and they even put a download disc in first class post. It didn't cost me a penny - my brother had a similar problem (norton I think) and he clocked up a phone bill of £50! on their premium line.

Can you help with another problem ? My Outlook Express sticks on connecting half the time and I have to log off. Have done Panda scan, also Spybot,CCcleaner & adaware scan. Have you any suggestions?
Thanks

You want a sarcastic answer or ... :D

OK, the first thing that springs to mind is a lot of these AVs these days scan your email, in and out ... turn it of, if you have email scanning, and try again ... if all is fine again, then either watch what you open or turn it back on and live with it.

It well could be an ISP 'problem' as they also have started to "filter" your email for spam and such ... wish my Yahoo pillocks would leave my email alone. I get mail not even addressed to me? bit like a new Postman on a strange round ... bungs the letters in any old box. :D

OH, as a rule of thumb, always start a new thread for a 'different' problem, that way everybody will see it ... :thumb:
