When I try to start the service I get "Could not start the service on
local computer. Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label
syntax is incorrect"

The driver for my soundcard is installed and the services listed as
dependencies are started.

I have just repaired my XP installation after a crash and things are
probably not right in the registry. The crash was probably caused by an
installation of Total Recorder. I suspect the service is still looking
for some of its files and can't find them.

How do I fix this?

Set a Restore point and then open the registry. Using the find next in the drop down menu look for all references to this recorder and then delete them. Reboot and see if the message appears. If you do not feel comfortable modifying the registry ask someone to help you out. There shouldn't be any problem if you set the restore point first.
