I am unable to start the local security authority subsystem on my
windows 2000 PC. The error message I get when I go to Control Panel ->
Administrative tools -> Services -> Local Security Authority Subsystem
-> Start is:

Could not start the Local Security Authority Subsystem service on Local
Computer.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I don't know what file I am missing here. Can anyone throw some light?

What I am trying to do here is to map a remote network drive on to my
PC, but I am unable to, and I get the error message "No network
provider accepted the given network path". I figured that the
Workstation service needs to be started for mapping to work, and that
fails to start because of a failed dependency, namely the local
security authority subsystem.

don't worry about the workstation service. Make sure that File and Print
Sharing is enabled on the computer that is sharing the files. Also make sure
that the Windows Firewall allows File and Print Sharing. While testing it is
easier to just disable Windows Firewall on both pc's. Also if you have other
firewalls disable them too for testing.

Make sure that each pc can ping each others IP. Also see if you can ping by
Netbios name.

If you are in a Workgroup and not a Domain, I have found that going to
Administrative Tools --> Local Security Settings --> Local Policies -->
Security Options --> Network Access: Sharing and security model for local
accounts, and setting this to Classic, really helps with passthrouh
authentication. Meaning if you have accounts on all the workgroup computers
with the same username and password things are easier to share.

Anyway, after all that if you still can't connect to the other computer,
contact your Administrator....lol.
