I have two machines; a desktop and a notepad both connected to a
network using a switch. The desktop is connected to the internet via
ISDN. Both machines are running Windows XP professional.
If I use the network wizards to configure them everything works okay
and I can connect to the internet on the desktop and the notepad
simultaneously (via the desktop connection). File sharing etc works
fine.
So what's the problem?
If, after using the network wizards to get the two machines
communicating, I then manually set the IP addresses as follows:
10.0.0.10 desktop
10.0.0.20 notepad
and introduce a 3rd Linux machine (actually this is a "virtual"
machine running on the notepad alongside windows xp).
10.0.0.30 linux
I create a hosts file on each machine and they can all communicate
with each other so networking is not a problem.
The only problem I have is that the notepad can no longer connect to
the internet through the desktop.
Does anyone know why this might be the case and what I need to do to
fix it?
Regards.
