Unable to setup LPT1 printer

Upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP.
Printer stopped working and I'm getting an "Unable to
print ..." message.
The Device Manager only shows an LPT3 icon with an
exclamation point, which means that it's not even
functioning.

Worse is that Windows XP does not show LPT1 in the COM
and LPT section of the device manager.

This is what I assume is wrong since it doesn't seem to
recognize LPT1.

If you did not uninstall the printer before doing the ME to XP upgrade, you
probably still have the ME driver installed, which won't work properly with
XP.

See http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm. You may find
that doing steps 1 through 5 is sufficient in your case.

About the LPT port; you can change which LPT number is associated with a
parallel port:
in Computer Management, Device Manager, right click on the parallel port and
select Properties
select the Port Settings tab.

If you still get the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager:
- in Computer Management, Device Manger, right click on the parallel port
and select Uninstall; click OK on the Confirm Device Removal message box
- disconnect the printer
- restart Windows XP
Windows XP should detect the "new" device and set it up correctly.

Did that fix the problem?
