I am trying to setup LAN for my 2 systems MA1 and MA2
using TCP/IP protocol. But the two systems do not talk to
each other at all. While pinging one system from other i
get the message "host unreachable".

I have checked my LAN cable, network cards etc. Everything
is working fine. Systems can ping their own IP. I can see
the small icon (2 blinking computers) in systary of
windows 2000 professional.

I am using following TCP/IP settings

2000 proffesional : MA1 :
IP Address : 192.2.1.1
SUBNET MASK : 255.255.255.0

Widnows ME : MA2 :
IP Address : 192.1.1.1
SUBNET MASK : 255.255.255.0

Both systems are in same workgroup "WORKGROUP"

Anything I am missing or any mistakes I am doing in the IP
settings

Thanks
Munish

Can you ping your gateway from both machines? Is there a
personal firewall running on either machine?

Your IP addresses and subnet masks are not correct. Try 192.168.0.1 and
192.168.0.2 for the computers and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 on each.
This will put the 2 computers in the same subnet.

Here is the problem, use 192.168.0.1 for one computer and then
change the last number on the other one to 2, leave the rest the same
and see if that works.
You MAY have to create a user on the 2000 machine that has the exact
name and password used on your ME machine so the ME machine can get
into the files.
