Unable to set up AOL mail in WLMD

I have tried setting up AOL mail in WLMD using the instructions in another
post:

883081 - How to configure an AOL e-mail account in Outlook Express:

I was able to make all of the folders show up and I was able to synchronize
all the folders, however, I was unable to send any mail from the aol account,
I would keep getting an error about authentication. I have searched high and
low and have only found 1 newsgroup post regarding this question about
setting up AOL mail. I sure wish someone would give a definitive answer on
this.

You'll find support for Windows Live Mail Desktop (WLMD) in this public
newsgroup:
