I have a client with 2 win2000 servers, 1 SBS and 1
terminal server. both have 2 NICs one for internet access
and 1 for LAN. the terminal server is set up for 2 static
IPs. the SBS2000 server will not hold static IPs when they
are set they both revert to Obtain IP address
automatically. any ideas?????

Here is the ipconfig

The last adapter to be configured has DHCP disabled until
a reboot then they both revert to autoconfig enabled

Go to Network Connections, Advanced, advanced and make sure your internal
nic is on top in the bindingorder.
Have you used all the wizards in the SBS-console?
Doesn't your external nic have a static IP? DNS on it should point to your
server-IP as well. Make sure only TCP/IP is bound to the external nic.
Rerun ICW wizard.

Is it possible that another machine or router is using the very same IP as
your SBS? Is it possible that a router is doing DHCP-serving?
Do you see anything in the eventlogs?

Marina

I changed Routers and made absolutely sure that DHCP was disabled and that
no other system was providing DHCP on the network. Gone through the registry
and changed all Autoconfigure values. I have spoken to quite a few of my
associates who thin I have finally gone completely mad.

Last night I set the server up on it's own network with no other systems on
it and still I cannot change the NIC's from being set to autoconfig. I am
beginning to think that there may be a key stuck in the registry.

This where "interesting" means "I have no idea"

Is the SBS fully patched? When did you install ms03-026? Did you install
ms03-039 yet? Have you checked that they were installed properly?

Marina

It has
ms03-023
ms03-026
ms03-030
ms03-034
ms03-039
Plus Service Pack 4

They are all installed and show up in the Add/Remove Programs

Just TCP/IP on the internet one, and on the LAN normal Client for Networks,
file & print sharing and QoS packet Scheduler

Marina,

That worked fine, thanks. I used the KB:299451 as it is the domain
controller. I think someone had hacked the system so have locked it down.
and seems to be running OK. Thanks again
