When I try to set the default e-mail client in Tools|Internet
Options|Programs, my e-mail client does not appear in the pull down as one
of my choices. Groupwise 5.5 is the client. This is occurs on only one of my
Win2K Pro machines, the other boxes are fine. It also isn't an issue with
any of my XP or 98 boxes.

If anyone has experienced this I would appreciate your expertise in solving
this annoyance.

thanks,
Ron

All available clients should be listed under:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]
There should be keys and sub-keys. When you go to IE
Tools|Internet Options|Programs, it is actually these keys
that are in your drop-down list.
The default value might look like this:
(Default) REG_SZ Groupwise 5.5
Exported, the entry might look like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]
@="Groupwise 5.5"
But if there's no "Groupwise 5.5" keys, then it won't work
to add the default value.
All Microsoft machines tend to have at least Hotmail and
Outlook Express available, and some machines have other
clients (like your Groupwise). If Groupwise isn't
registered there, you should try reinstalling it.

Also in some cases an application has a option for "Make xxx the
systen default yyyy" (yyyy being newsreader, e-mail client, etc) or
"always check if..." or similar.

Turn that off if it exists in the app you no longer want to be the
"system default" first, then make the new app. the "system default".
