When windows mail is open and I create a new email, it won't send, however if
I close the windows mail application then send the mail saved in my outbox it
works, very frustrating having to close the application each time I want to
send an email. I am using a new laptop which came with Vista preinstalled. I
have downloaded the microsoft fix and I have removed AVG anti virus and tried
Avast! instead, still no luck. I even tried sending the email without any
virus protection installed and I still have the same problem. Please Help!!!!

Click Options on the Tools menu, then click on the Send tab. The second item
is "send messages immediately". Is that box checked?

yes it is, it doesn't seem to make any difference if I have that box checked
or if I select send/receive.

Your mail account may be corrupt. Delete it, restart Windows Mail, then
re-create that account.

well it did work briefly, but now I'm back to square 1, mail will only send
if I close the application then reopen it. I've repeated your previous
instructions but it's just not cooperating this time. Anymore suggestions
before I return this laptop to the supplier and revert to my old slow xp

Thanks for the feedback. It is somewhat surprising that the AVG
antivirus can cause account corruption. For some time now, I've
recommended only Avast, since it seems to be the least likely
to cause problems with Windows Mail.

Cheers Gary, that seems to have cured the problem

Gary I found this link on the Toshiba website there's an Adobe document with
instuctions for updating the Desktop SMS, for some reason this appears to
have resolved my email problem. I don't use the SMS facility so I don't know
what effect it has for those who do use it. Just thought it might be useful.

You've already tried everything that might fix the problem.
Let's face it. Windows Mail is somewhat buggy. The only advice
I have left for you is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

I am not familiar with DesktopSMS, but from the uninformative PDF
that was referenced, I gleaned the words "E-mail Integration."
As far as I'm concerned. anything that messes with email is evil. ;-)
