I have not been able to send a file to several different
recipients using Messenger. i keep getting an error msg
relating to a firewall issue. These other recipients are
able to receive files from others, but not from me.

I've tried taking down my xp firewall, going to Control
Panel>Network Connections, then right clicking on my
network connection and going into Properties, hitting the
Advanced tab, and unchecking the Internet Connection
Firewall. This did not work.

Then someone told me to click the General tab, then
Properties, then Advanced, then WINS, then click the
Enable button next to Enable NetBios over TCP/IP, but
this didnt work either. Does anybody have any other
suggestions? I have XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.

The Control Panel>Network Connections>Properties>Advanced
Firewall is a useless setting. It does not afect the FTP
[File Transfer Protocol] nor TCP/IP.
Maybe you have an Antivirus software [like Symantec
Norton Internet Security] which can block your
connection. If so, go to the antivirus' control panel and
find "Rules". Then modify the rule for msnmsgr.exe or
winmsgr.exe [or similar] to "Permit all".
If you don't have an Antivirus software or the problem
persists ask your ISP if their server interdicts file
transfer.

I too had this problem and tried for months to resolve
it.Then I installed a free firewall and stopped using
the XP firewall. Can now send and receive files at 2mb
per minute. My PC runs smoother safer the XP firewall is
a joke. Thomas
