Hi can anyone please help. I am a novice to the technical side of PC's and
the likes of Sky Broadband/Dell are unwilling to assist. I am unable to send
emails but can receive them and they get stuck in the outbox, one of which is
there and cannot be deleted. I would appreciate any help.

Use the following utility to clear your outbox.

note. Take your time to read and follow the instruction.
(The utility isn't dangerous but won't do what you need if you don't.)

Thanks Julian - do you think this could be connected to the inability to
send
mails too?Yes, it is. Clear you outbox and you'll be able to send.

Well... I've not heard of anyone who has the same (common) problem
as you who, on following the procedure as written, has not been successful
in recovering full functionality.

Well thanks to you, both problems are now fixed! Message from outbox has
gone and I can send emails. Thanks so much for your help, if I can do it,
anyone else can!

Not necessarily...
Solving problems can often rely on attitude as much as skill,
and some people just haven't the temperament.

I have a similar problem, I have run the utility followed the instructions
and still cannot send email.

"Similar" is not good enough. It would be helpful if you described your
exact problem, and just how WMUtil failed to work for you.

Similar... do you mean the same?

665 and 666 are similar but to a computer they are completely different.

Hi, I'm having exactly the problem but I must need the 'ultra-idiot' guide!!
I followed the link supplied by Julian but I must be missing something! The
WMUtil window isn't totally activated. The utlilities buttons are off and say
I must close winmail to activate but I havent' got it on. When I downloaded
the WMUtil files they are both together in Documents, I pressed extract all
files when promted to do do so but, there is no .exe to run. Is this what you
did? Or, can anyone else help?

Double check for Application AND process tabs in taskmgr

If Windows Mail is open, or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the
Database functions are disabled, and the WinMail.exe process must be
terminated before these features can become available. (If WinMail is closed
and these buttons still remain disabled, then perform a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)

What error message do you get when you try to send?

Try this also:

1. Go to the Vista start menu and type cmd
2. The search results will display a program titled cmd
3. Right-click on the link and select "Run as administrator"
4. type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without
the quotatioin marks
5. Test your POP account and see if you can now download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, reenable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"

Thanks. I feel apprehensive fiddling with the computer but I appear to have
done it! I realise I was totally missing the large window containing the text
you sent to me again, duh!!
Vista has been a right pain. I am still getting 'can't do this', can't do
that' windows on start-up!! But thanks for solving this one for me.

Cool... No worries.. it's Steve's fault..

I'll told him that particular window wasn't big enough nor red enough! ;-)

That's really there to protect you but, if you feel lucky (punk!),
you could turn off UAC.

Check "help" on start menu and search for UAC and read up on it.

I cannot send an email but I can receive them. I get this error message.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Read: ESSO Gas

Response: '554 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: Relay access

It looks like you have hijacked a thread and introduced a new
problem which makes thing rather confusing.

Nevertheless...

Select Tools > Accounts > *your email account* > Properties > Servers

is Outgoing Mail server "my server requires authentication" ticked?

It seems that you are on another network, and trying to email thru Telus....
take a look at this, it says you can't do that..

This is typical of ISPs these days. If you are not connected to the
Internet via their service, then you cannot send mail. (antispam measure)
That is what the Relay access denied message means.
