The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test
for windows mail', Account: 'pop-server.carolina.rr.com', Server:
'smtp-server.carolina.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553
Authentication is required to send mail as <[email protected]>', Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

I have been told there is a software problem which i do not know how to fix.
My server has verified that I can send and receive mail just not useing
windows mail. Can you help?

1. Are you connected to the Roadrunner network when you try to send?

2. Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties -Servers
do you have your username and password entered?
and checked (x) Log on using clear text authentication
not secure password authentication
not APOP

Select the account and click Properties.
On the Servers tab check the box on the bottom:
"My server requires authentication"

I can't send an email bcause the HMTP isn't recongized. And this is no help
at all. So what has happened to customer service and being able to ask and
get answers to problems? This new Vista is not worth the trouble I have had
the last 5 months. New is not always better.

What is the exact error message? I have never seen or heard of "HMTP".

What is HMTP???
Do you mean http, or SMTP?
Windows Mail can't access http (webmail) accounts.

If you get an error message, please post the entire message here.

It's like putting bad gas in your car. It ain't gonna go!
It's not the car's fault or Vista's fault.
The specifics of your Internet/email access are between you and
your ISP.
