No longer able to select automatic update options. It appears as if the only
option is the automatic one. How can I select the particular option I wish,
namely, that the automatic feature is turned off and that I check for updates
manually?

Please advise.

Hi Sumo,

If you are the admin of your computer, try this. (Otherwise a network admin
may have set up what you have...)

These registry settings when loaded using administrator credentials will
reset your Windows Update settings.
The XX is your country code.

Put this (between the --- ) in a file called wsus-remove.reg and double
click it.
------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"=-
"WUStatusServer"=-
"TargetGroupEnabled"=-
"TargetGroup"=-
"ElevateNonAdmins"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\WindowsUpdate\XX]
