Unable to see one network computer with XP

I've just added a new computer (which I will call X) with
XP Professional to a small network of 3 other computers.
Computers A and B are running Win 2000 Professional,
computer C is running Win98. All are in the same workgroup.

New computer X can see B and C, but not A. A can see B and
C but not X. But B and C can see and access all four
machines, A, B, C and X.

I am suspicious it might be to do with Netbeui, which A, B
and C have installed (but not X - I can't find it in XP
Professional). If I remove Netbeui from A it can't see any
machines and none can see it. But removing Netbeui from B
(also Win 2000 Prof) only removes A, not C or X. Is
Netbeui still needed and if not how can I get rid of it
without losing connections?

All machines have static IP addresses and I can ping
successfully between X and A.

Any help much appreciated.

John,

you need only one transport protocol, these days it is mostly
TCP/IP. Unless you have an overriding cause, remove NetBEUI from
all computers and make sure all Windows network functions are
bound to TCP/IP.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

Many thanks, Hans. After removing Netbeui and a couple of
reboots, it's OK.
